The conference was a gathering of store managers, support centre staff and colleagues from across the UK and the Far East. Maplin wanted to ensure that guests had a superb experience so we appointed a team of ‘conference makers’ to take responsibility for decisions about the event. This led to the generation of some inspiring ideas.
Key features included an “in the round” stage set for a plenary session (presenters stood on a circular stage positioned in the centre of the audience), which enabled delegates to get closer to the action. We also introduced tour guides, a headset system that meant guests could move between the breakout pods and tune into a particular channel to hear what was going on. All the breakout areas were in the same room and in close proximity, so this clever idea eliminated any issues with noise.
Feedback from both organisers and delegates was that the conference was "the biggest and best yet".
